Autonomous Driving Architecture Using SLAM and Machine Learning with LiDAR

Objective: Development of hybrid autonomous driving system combining traditional SLAM with machine learning for enhanced navigation performance

Technical Approach:

  • Perception: 3D LiDAR SLAM with scan-matcher frontend and graph-based backend
  • Planning: Hybrid framework integrating global path planning with RL-based local planning (PPO, Imitation Learning)
  • Control: Pure pursuit controller with optimized trajectory following

Achievement: Led 3-member team to develop autonomous driving rover using Agile Scrum methodology

Innovation: Developed efficient dataset extraction algorithm reducing 5,000 frames to 400 optimal samples using K-Means clustering and scene change detection

System Architecture: Implemented modular perception-planning-control pipeline with lane segmentation, object detection, and dynamic obstacle avoidance

Problem Solving: Overcame critical hardware failures (motor/camera malfunctions) through systematic debugging and component replacement

F1Tenth Autonomous Racing Platform | MiRu Project

Achievement: Designed and built F1Tenth racing platform from scratch, scaling from 1 to 3 operational vehicles for MiRu organization

Hardware Design: Custom-designed platform boards using CAD, manufactured via laser cutting, and integrated essential hardware components
